From amateur to pro in one day!
Over the past few months, one of our fearless leaders was secretly on a mission to achieve a personal goal. This was quite an exceptional feat considering the planning and discipline that was involved during 17 weeks of training.
Since November, Catelyn Cowher followed a strict regimen as she prepared to enter her first bodybuilding competition.
Moving day
In an inspiring blend of fitness and community spirit, the Parks and Recreation fitness team has been actively making a difference.
On March 28, Rock Steady Boxing coaches, volunteers and fighters gathered at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach for " Moving Day " to honor those living with Parkinson’ s disease, raise awareness and support the vital work of the Parkinson’ s Foundation.
This event was particularly special due to the efforts of one of their Rock Steady fighters who initiated Team Aloha. Team Aloha raised $ 35,693, 100 % of which goes to research and building out resources for all living with this challenging disease.
Jill Souza, fitness supervisor, kicked off the day with a drumming warm-up. With beats echoing through the park, participants couldn’ t help but groove along! Her infectious energy had everyone tapping their feet and feeling the beat before setting off on the walk.
Always an athlete, with a passion to challenge herself, Catelyn epitomized sacrifice and determination, as she guided herself through this unfamiliar journey. A novice to the sport, Catelyn entered a recent OCB Treasure Coast Classic as an unassuming competitor. Within hours, her presence soon would be known by all.
Catelyn always displays humility and is far too humble to ever mention her successes. Striving for excellence, Catelyn’ s character and determination not only led her to be victorious in all her categories but also to achieve the ultimate prize. Catelyn literally walked in as an amateur and left with her OCB Pro Card.
As part of our Parks and Recreation family, it is difficult to find the most descriptive words to truly express how ecstatic we are for our colleague and friend. We are overwhelmed with joy and happiness for all her accomplishments, and we will continue to be her biggest cheerleaders with all her future endeavors.
It was a wonderful way to step into April, which is recognized as Parkinson’ s Awareness Month. www. PSLParks. com
