Celebrating environmental stewardship at PSL ' s 65th anniversary
Each year, the City of Port St. Lucie shines a spotlight on the amazing individuals and groups who go the extra mile to care for our environment.
The Environmental Stewardship Awards celebrate the passion and hard work that keep our City beautiful, sustainable and thriving. Awardees received special recognition at the award ceremony held at The Port.
For the City of Port St. Lucie’ s 65th anniversary celebration, SII hosted a Naturally PSL: Green Spaces and Places table as part of the festivities, sharing what the City provides and how we support our residents. As part of the celebration, we invited attendees to tell us how long they’ ve lived in Port St. Lucie. Each person received a commemorative pin that matched their years as a resident.
By accepting a pin, residents also agreed to take part in a simple, meaningful activity: connecting with someone new at the event. The goal was to spark conversations between neighbors— longtime residents and newcomers alike— to help people learn more about who makes up our community.
The work was also part of a research project spearheaded by Public Innovation Fellow Carol Coletta of the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins. Researchers Leigh Graham and Rachel Abrams conducted surveys to support the effort.
Because this milestone celebrates 65 years of Port St. Lucie’ s growth, the initiative focused on strengthening community roots, encouraging relationships and helping residents feel even more connected to the place they call home.
Naturally PSL: Green Spaces and Places
The team had an eventful Earth Month this April! Kicking it off by connecting with the next generation of leaders at Treasure Coast High School Volunteer Fair, the team spoke to students about how they can contribute to the City’ s Naturally PSL Initiative by participating in upcoming volunteer activities.
That spirit of service carried directly into the Caring Community Cleanup Day. Residents from across the City joined forces to roll up their sleeves, ensuring our shared spaces remain pristine and vibrant.
The Naturally PSL team spoke to volunteers who actively took part in stewarding the natural environment of the City. The team also had a fantastic time at the Oxbow Earth Fest and spoke with neighbors about the vital role our green spaces play in keeping Port St. Lucie healthy and connected. www. CityofPSL. com
