Supporting the City strategy through department workshops
On April 3, the Parks and Recreation Department gathered at The Saints Golf Club for a strategic planning workshop designed to reflect on recent progress, strengthen alignment with the City’ s FY 2025‐26 Strategic Plan and shape a shared vision for the years ahead.
The day opened with a look back at the department’ s accomplishments, creating space for staff to celebrate wins and acknowledge the collective effort behind them. From there, the team explored how Parks and Recreation fits into the broader Citywide strategy by exploring what is working well, where challenges are emerging and where new opportunities are taking root.
Building on that discussion, participants engaged in creative activities to generate fresh, solution‐oriented ideas. Conversations centered on elevating levels of service, strengthening training and certifications, improving internal processes and addressing the needs of key stakeholders.
Next, the group focused on the department’ s future direction, revisiting the current vision statement and considering what the department wants to be known for. The group crafted a clear and inspiring vision that reflects the community’ s needs and the department’ s aspirations.
The group then turned its attention to prioritizing ideas, identifying champions to advance the most promising initiatives and updating elements of the department ' s strategic operations plan. Throughout the day, participants tackled important questions about resources, service expectations and workforce development, maintaining a clear focus on delivering high‐quality amenities and experiences for residents.
By the end of the workshop, the department walked away with renewed clarity, shared purpose and a roadmap for the future. The session not only advanced strategic planning efforts, it reinforced Parks and Recreation’ s commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and providing meaningful impact for the City. www.
