City Manager Inspires Youth Council Members
During the April Youth Council meeting, City Manager Jesus Merejo served as the guest speaker. Sixteen council members attended in person and virtually.
Merejo shared his inspiring journey, describing his upbringing in the Dominican Republic and his progression from playing professional baseball to working as a wastewater operator in the Utility Systems Department. His career advanced to Utility Systems Department Director, then Chief Assistant City Manager and ultimately City Manager in 2023.
Merejo encouraged students to work hard, pursue higher education, actively serve their community and learn as much as possible about local government, emphasizing that they could someday become the next City Manager.
He expressed pride in the students’ dedication to academics, sports, employment and their commitment to participating in the Youth Council and serving their community.
Additionally, the meeting welcomed Sophia, a 9-year-old student who previously interviewed the Mayor. Sophia attended the Youth Council session to observe and gain a deeper understanding of how Council members engage in decision making. She enjoyed the experience and expressed enthusiasm for joining the Youth Council in the future.
