2024 Hurricane Preparedness Expo coming in June
Emergency Management ’ s Hurricane Preparedness Expo is returning to the MIDFLORIDA Event Center on Saturday , June 1 . We are working on coordinating presentations , vendors , giveaways and maybe a few surprises for this year ’ s expo . We are looking forward to seeing you there .
If you are a local business that is hurricane or disaster-related , email PSLEM @ cityofpsl . com with your contact information , type of business and willingness to be a vendor at the expo , and our planner will add you to the business distribution list so you will be notified when booths are available . We will only take booth reservations from vendors that provide a product or service that assists citizens in preparing for a hurricane or other disaster because of limited space for vendors at the event .
Once the vendor reservation portal opens , we encourage vendors to quickly secure your spot as one of our vendors .
OEM staff attends local mitigation strategy working group
The local mitigation strategy working group is made up of county , municipal , business and community partners that seeks to :
• Develop a unified countywide strategy to reduce potential risks and vulnerabilities .
• Communicate about mitigation programs and funding opportunities available within our jurisdictions .
• Review , prioritize and rank community mitigation projects on the prioritized project list , making them eligible for various mitigation grant programs .
The group discussed mitigation reports and the process to update current and future mitigation projects . Additionally , they discussed the community rating system recertification timeline and requirements for members to keep their current classification active .
A great example of a mitigation program the working group discussed is the My Safe Florida Home program . They discussed the past application cycle and the benefits the program might have to residents . New funding for the program that begins in July will be tied to new prioritization requirements .
