Officer rescues man after fall from sailboat
On Feb . 24 at about 7:35 p . m ., Port St . Lucie Police responded to Club Med for a male who fell overboard from his sailboat into the water . Officer Ryan Lodwick located the 55-year-old male struggling in the water and quickly retrieved his rescue disc and threw it to him to help keep him afloat .
Shortly after , Rescue 12 from the St . Lucie County Fire District arrived and also threw the male a floatation buoy . Together , the first responders were able to pull the man from the water without further incident . The male was later transported by Rescue 12 to a local hospital for hypothermia and is expected to make a full recovery .
Officer Buteau Morestant recognized as Officer of the Year
Officer Buteau Morestant was recognized Feb . 21 as Officer of the Year during the 39th annual Business and Industry Awards hosted by the St . Lucie County Chamber of Commerce held at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center .
Officer Morestant , an eight-year veteran with PSLPD , was selected based on his overall professionalism as one of our Parks Officers , for his investigative skills in conjunction with identifying a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred in a local park and with his handling of a disturbance at a local polling location where he was able to restore peace through de-escalation .
