Summer Camp expansion
Parks & Recreation is expanding its summer camp program to provide more opportunities for families throughout the community . Parks & Recreation is partnering with the St . Lucie School District to secure three additional school sites , Southport Middle School , Manatee K-8 and Southern Oaks Middle School , alongside our existing locations at Minsky Gym and the MIDFLORIDA Event Center .
In addition to its traditional camps , Parks & Recreation is introducing McCarty Ranch Wilderness Camp , an outdoor adventure camp for children ages 8-12 , with a focus on exploration and discovery . This camp will accommodate 30 campers and feature a centralized pickup / drop-off system . The department also is launching a Half-Day Camp in the Park at Charles Ray and Winterlakes parks , offering a flexible , cost-effective option for families two days a week , with no field trips and a capacity of 30 campers per park .
Additionally , Parks & Recreation is continuing to offer its very popular Teen Camp and Tot Camp , held at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center , ensuring engaging and ageappropriate programming for a wide range of campers .
To ensure a fair registration process , Parks & Recreation will be implementing a lottery system for the 2025 summer youth camps . In recent years , camp registration has filled up within the first hour of opening , leading to several complaints from families unable to secure spots . The lottery system aims to provide equitable access to camp spaces for families throughout the community .
