Youth Symposium at Tradition Preparatory High School
Youth Council and Love Your Block staff members Stephanie Vernot and Victoria DellaGuardia attended the 2026 Youth Symposium at Tradition Preparatory High School on Feb. 10.
They first engaged in the Opportunity Hall, where they provided information about the Youth Council, informed students about the upcoming application period opening in May and highlighted some of the accomplishments and volunteer opportunities offered by the Youth Council. They also shared details about volunteer opportunities with the Love Your Block program.
Following the Opportunity Hall, Community Engagement Manager Stephanie Vernot gave a presentation during two skill lab sessions. Students received an overview of the Youth Council and learned how to get involved. They participated in a group activity where they were assigned a teen-related proposal topic and discussed why they would recommend this proposal, how it fits into the community, the impact it would have and potential challenges and pushbacks.
This activity allowed them to identify problems, collaborate, propose solutions and practice public speaking.
This marks the second year of our participation in the symposium. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationship with the students and administration at the charter school.
