Opening a business? Don’ t sign that lease without this workshop
The City of Port St. Lucie offers a quarterly Before You Sign the Lease workshop to assist new and existing businesses planning to open a commercial location. These sessions are designed to help business owners understand the critical steps involved before committing to a lease agreement, ensuring they are prepared for local requirements and regulations.
During the workshop, the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce provides an overview of its Small Business Assistance Program and explains how it supports businesses applying for a Port St. Lucie business tax receipt by coordinating with reviewing departments.
The City’ s Planning and Zoning Department outlines zoning and land-use requirements, including compliance review approval, which is necessary before a building permit can be issued. Additionally, the Building Department discusses renovation and build-out requirements based on occupancy type as determined by the Florida Building Code, while the Business Tax Division reviews the application and approval process for business tax receipts.
By bringing together these key resources, the Before You Sign the Lease workshop equips entrepreneurs with the knowledge to avoid costly mistakes and streamline the opening process. The City encourages all business owners considering a commercial space to attend these quarterly sessions and take advantage of expert guidance that supports successful business development in the community.
The next workshop will be held Wednesday, April 1 at the Community Center. Please visit cityofpsl. com / businesslease to register.
Home is where the anchor drops
The Community Redevelopment Agency, in collaboration with Parks and Recreation and Planning and Zoning, installed six painted anchors in select locations throughout The Port District. The anchor design represents The Port District’ s logo and enhances the identity of the district.
The 6-foot-tall anchors were curated at Unique Rabbit Studios in Pompano Beach. Multiple artists were then selected from a call to artists with a desire for artwork to represent the various amenities within The Port District and / or a Florida theme. The selected artists are from Florida, residing between Brevard and Palm Beach counties. Additional anchors will be installed as new projects come online in The Port District. www.
