First-hand look at state government for Youth Council members
Four City of Port St. Lucie Youth Council members and two Communications Department staff, including Community Engagement Manager Stephanie Vernot and Digital Media Producer Andy Sangas, attended the Florida League of Cities Legislative Action Days in Tallahassee in January.
They also attended a presentation at Florida State University on government operations in university settings and how to engage in legislative issues.
During the two-day youth program, students participated in an interactive workshop designed to support young people ' s contributions to social change throughout Florida. They leveraged their experiences and commitments to community citizenship to identify and address areas for growth in their communities. They also had the chance to meet with legislators from the Treasure Coast area and tour the state Capitol.
Overall, more than 100 students and 25 adults representing 13 cities participated. Youth members also were highlighted in Rep. Dana Trabulsy ' s newsletter.
