2025 hurricane season recap
During the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, we observed 13 named storms and five hurricanes( four of them major hurricanes). Remarkably, none of these hurricanes made landfall in the continental United States, a scenario that last occurred in 2015.
Despite the absence of direct threats to our community, the season ' s activity aligned with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association ' s( NOAA) seasonal outlook predictions for named storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes. Additionally, this hurricane season is the second time in recorded history where more than three category 5 hurricanes formed in the Atlantic basin.( 2005 featured Emily, Katrina, Rita and Wilma; and 2025 had Humberto, Erin and Melissa).
While the City of Port St. Lucie was not impacted by any major storms, the Office of Emergency Management continues to focus on four things residents can do to be best prepared for any disaster: Know Your Zone, Make a Plan, Build a Kit and Stay Informed.
