Port St . Lucie Police

Historic PSLPD-only academy class graduates and is sworn in
For the first time in the history of the Port St . Lucie Police Department , and in collaboration with Indian River State College Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex , members of Law Enforcement Class No . 178 , which was created solely for PSLPD cadets , graduated and were sworn in in last month at a ceremony at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center .
All 25 cadets received their graduation certificates and had their badges presented and pinned by Chief Leo Niemczyk , Deputy Chief Marc DiMeo and Deputy Chief Carmine Izzo .
They soon will begin their four-month field training before beginning their solo assignments .
Recognizing the continued growth of Port St . Lucie , and with the full support of City Council , PSLPD created a recruiting and retention plan with an overall goal of raising the sworn officer to citizen ratio from 1.2 officers per 1,000 residents to 1.6 officers per 1,000 residents within the next five years . The current population of Port St . Lucie is approximately 254,000 .
PSLPD is thankful for the collaboration with this initiative and continued partnership with the Indian River State College Public Safety Training Complex , and we look forward to our next PSLPD-only academy class beginning in March .
