desastres naturales. Frente a los inminentes impactos del cambio climático en las prácticas
deportivo-recreativas cotidianas y la necesidad de una mirada científica diferente, se abre una
encrucijada para los decisores: ¿transitar o no? del paradigma científico de la modernidad a la
Revolución del saber y el hacer contemporáneos y fortalecer el compromiso ético y la
actuación práctica a favor del desarrollo sostenible.

Sport and environment: the crossway of decisions makers: Scanning about environmental
knowledge and perception of sports sector decision makers.
ABSTRACT
As canning about environmental knowledge and perception of sport sector decision makers
carried out in Havana City; matches with other home studies that reveal that despite of Cuba
main character international role on environmental subject, the call for an environmental
strategy of INDER and the Cuban Olympic Committee, the response of the scientific
community and basic sportive organizations entrepreneurs, is still tenuous and scattered. This
bibliographical and field study involves the last five years, and it is a complementary work of
author’s experience as a lecturer at several Cuban Universities and by his active participation
on different CITMA* (Ministry of Science and Technology and Environment) organizations
like: Group of Environment Studies and Society, (GEMAS); and the Cuban Network of
Environmental Training (CEDFA); of the Centre for Environmental Information Management
and Education (CIGEA). This research work has the proposal of showing the need of raising
the environmental knowledge and perception in sport sector, emphasizing the University role
to make true the Cuban environmental policy and decreasing the vulnerability levels of this
sector while meeting natural disasters. Facing the imminent impacts of climate changes on
environment in day to day sportive and recreational practices and the need of a different
scientific view, a crossway opens to decision makers: ¿whether passing it through or not? from
scientific paradigm of modernity to knowledge Revolution and the contemporary work
strengthening ethical commitment and practical performance on behalf of sustainable
development.

INTRODUCCIÓN
Consecuente con la temprana colaboración del COI con el PNUMA respecto a la necesidad de
un tratamiento responsable de los problemas ambientales en el universo del deporte y la
cultura física, tras la histórica Cumbre de la Tierra, de1992 efectuada en Río de Janeiro,
Brasil, Cuba reafirmaba ante el mundo su compromiso incondicional, con el desarrollo
sostenible. En el plano interno y en medio de la más aguda crisis económica que ha impactado
al país en sus últimos 50 años, se reafirmaba el compromiso de la Revolución con la dignidad
