 Gazette March Is MUSIC in SCHOOLS Month This month is National Music in Schools Month and we want to take a little time out to highlight this. This event originated in 1985 and is sponsored by the National Association for Music Education. This event focuses the nation’s attention of the need for and the benefits of quality music education programs. Children and administrators alike celebrate by creating and participating in events based around the central them of the event. This year they have chosen “Music Education-Orchestrating Success.” Music programs across the country are in danger. With the economy in the state it is, schools are finding it harder and harder to fund and develop constructive programs centered around music education. Music has always served as a means of creativity and expression and not just through singing. Instruments play a big part as well. The tone of a certain instrument can set the theme of a song or composition. The lyrics tell the story that normal words cannot. What we have to realize and remember is that the future is not only in the hands of the children, it is in ours as well. It is our job to help develop and cultivate the talent and creativity in kids so that they will have a better future. There are various ways we can do this from simply going to your child’s recital to buying them their first guitar. Take an interest. Take a stance. By supporting local music programs, you support the development of a future leader.  BROTHER SPOTLIGHT Sir Shawn Robinson Atlanta Mid-Town Chapter President For the month of March, we celebrate and honor our Brother, Sir Shawn Robinson. Hailing from the great state of Mississippi, Sir Robinson serves as the Mayor of the Alpha Atlanta Midtown. He crossed Fall ‘13 with the “Elevated Eleven.” He has vowed that under his direction, Alpha Atlanta will be second to none. Through hard work, preservation, intelligence, and a true sense of brotherhood, he proves daily why he is indeed and Elite Brother. If you would like to submit someone for the Brother Spotlight please send in their name, chapter information, and why you feel they deserve the honor of the Brother Spotlight. I Am My Brother’s Keeper One of our fraternal passions is children and education. We believe in the education of all our children regardless of color or circumstance. No child should be left behind, and the area you live in or the color of your skin should not determine the quality of education you receive.
