The term Glamping or “ Glamourous camping ” started to gain popularity in the U . S . more than a decade ago , but the idea has been around for hundreds of years . Aristocrats and royalty in Europe set up tents along their travels and often brought furniture and comforts from home .
During the pandemic , glamping sites were in demand as people longed to get away after being cooped up at home for so many months .

“ The first year there was a great interest ,” Jan Keen , vice president , marketing and entertainment says . “ By the second year we couldn ’ t build them fast enough .”
In 2020 , Keen says she had a huge interest from families , particularly from people in the 40-60 age range .
“ I ’ m watching people who have never camped before fall in love with it ,” she says . “ Glamping is an experience . If we provide a great experience , they will keep coming back .”

We had a wonderful activity director who put together some great theme nights and activities that allowed people to social distance and wear masks .”
