the Long
Way Home

wind your way along these official designated
Pennsylvania byways. For more details including

historic sites and attractions, browse the byways list at
www.VisitPA.com/pa-roadtrips.
Blue Route Byway
Delaware County
Explore cultural and historic sites along this short
scenic corridor linking the Pennsylvania Turnpike and
I-95 in the Brandywine Valley. Picnic in Ridley Creek
State Park and visit the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, where costumed interpreters recreate life in the
late 18th century (weekends April-November). Bring the
binoculars – the 650-acre Tyler Arboretum in
Media, PA is a birder’s paradise!
Brandywine Valley Byway
Chester and Delaware Counties
Meander along the Brandywine River
amid pastoral views of rolling hills and fertile fields where horses graze. A must-see is the
spectacular Longwood Gardens, a 1000-acre horticultural wonderland on a former DuPont estate. The
nearby Brandywine River Museum, housed in a 19th
century gristmill, showcases outstanding works of the
renowned Pennsylvania-born artist Andrew Wyeth.
Bucktail Trail Byway
Clinton and Elk Counties
Traveling what was once a Native American road
between the Susquehanna and Allegheny Rivers, this
byway traverses deep forest, charming small towns and
rugged countryside in the Pennsylvania Wilds. Watch for
elk herds! Stop by the Straub’s Brewery in St. Marys for
local craft beer, renowned since the 1800s.
Conestoga Ridge Road Byway
Lancaster County
Enjoy the hills, valleys, fields and meadows of the
Conestoga Valley on this pleasant route. Home to Amish
and Mennonite farmers, the area’s rich iron ore deposits
also drew immigrant Welsh craftsmen with a unique
architectural style. Stop at one of
many appetizing farm stands for fresh
produce, baked goods and local crafts,
or get out the bikes for a countryside ride.
Crawford Lakelands Byway
Crawford County
Natural beauty and trophy class muskie fishing are hallmarks of this
lakelands corridor. From Pymatuning Lake to Conneaut Lake, there’s something
for everyone—from ghost hunters at the reputedly haunted Knickerbocker Inn to
roller coaster enthusiasts riding the venerable “Blue Streak” wooden coaster at
Conneaut Lake Amusement Park.
Delaware River Valley Byway
Northampton County
Farmland, inspiring views and some of the earliest towns
in the region dot this 17-mile itinerary near the Wild and Scenic Delaware River.
Stop for a hike on the seven-mile Tekening Hiking Trail paralleling the cliffs above
the river. Boat ramps provide fishing access, so get out the gear, unhitch the boat
and cast for small mouth bass, walleye, pickerel and muskie.
