The Holocaust was a period in time when German Nazi's caused the death of nearly 12 million people, including 6 million Jews and 1.1 million children. This began in 1933 when the Germans elected a new chancellor named, Adolf Hitler. Hitler gained almost complete control of Germany and began targeting people who were Jewish, disabled, homosexual, etcetera to be separated from the general public. Soon after, the Nazi's began relocating these people to places called, concentration camps.

This is the main entrance to the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp in the current day. This camp was the largest Nazi concentration camp and extermination camp.

Concentration camps were the sites of genocide for many Jews. In proper terms, concentration camps were a guarded prison camp in which nonmilitary prisoners were held, especially those in Nazi Germany in which were to be exterminated. All together, the Nazi's established about 20,000 concentration camps and although none of them are used today, their memory will live on forever.
