The teacher will need to walk the students through the various parts of the
application, and explain the scoring process. Remind students that the purpose of
Teacher Cadet is not only to recruit bright students into teaching, but also to increase
the number of male and minority teachers in our state.
5. Students will be given forty-five minutes to read and score both of the applications;
through group discussion, they will reach consensus as to which student will receive
the $5,000.00 scholarship. One selection committee member in each group should be
selected to serve as the recorder. He will record the committee’s reasons for their
selection. One student should be prepared to announce whom the committee selected
and the reasons for their selection.

1. To personalize the scholarship selection experience, the students will complete a “My
Personal Scholarship Rating Self-Assessment sheet and include it in their portfolios.
2. Have students create a scholarship or selection criteria for students at their school.
