3. Each group will be responsible for a topic. Teachers will need to work with the
groups to help them select the medium they will use for their presentation. You may
want to encourage each group to use a different method. When all six groups have
completed this assignment, you will have a thirty-minute multi-media presentation
that your class can present at an assembly, at Parent Night, at an evening program, to
PTO/PTA, to parents/guardians, etc.
4. Suggested Research Methods
A. You might have the students identify people in the community who have attended
college in spite of the odds. Invite several of these people to come and talk to the
class.

D. Consult the guidance office.
E. Explore information via the internet.
1. Plan and conduct a College Day for the entire school. Get local alumni from various
colleges to participate to tell your students about their institutions.
2. Organize field trips to colleges in your area for your class and other students in your
s chool.
ASSESSMENT:
Teachers and students will evaluate the multi-media presentation using the “Multi-Media
Presentation Evaluation” form.
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT:
v Prior to these presentations, parents/guardians might be asked to help with
transportation so that students can interview community members. Other
parents/guardians can assist with some of the equipment.
v Refer to Suggestion A under “Research Methods.” Some of the students'
parents/guardians might have attended college in spite of difficulties. Invite them in
to talk to the class about setting goals and working to achieve them in spite of
adversity.
v The ProTeam teacher might ask a committee of parents/guardians to organize field
trips to colleges in the area. Parents/guardians can serve as drivers and chaperones as
well as seekers of information.
