2. Just as people on the show have many different jobs and responsibilities, to have a good education system, we need people in various positions doing their own special line of work to help make our schools the best they can be. 3. Divide the students into brainstorming teams of four to six, seated around a cleared area with one sheet of paper and a pencil in the center. On a signal from you, they will pass the paper clockwise around the group, allowing each person to name one professional job or position in education. Their goal is to record as many jobs as they can in three minutes before time is called. Remember, a student must try for at least ten seconds before passing the paper. After time is called, allow the groups to read their lists aloud while you write the items on the board or Smart Board. 4. Help them expand their list to include all the positions on the “Educational Personnel List.” (It might be interesting to see if the students can name at least one individual by name that holds each of the positions.) v Optional Assignment/Enrichment: Have students identify an administrator or a support staff member to shadow to gather research for this activity. 7. Once research is completed, distribute to each student one large 5x7 index card for each position assigned to research. Distribute instructions entitled “Preparing What’s My Line Card Pendants.” 8. After students have completed their cards and used them to make string pendants, collect them. 9. Next, move around the room hanging a pendant around each student’s neck with the index card hanging down his back. Make sure they do not get one of their own cards, and do not let them see the cards being hung down their backs. Remind students not to reveal what is on any of their neighbor’s cards as you move around the room giving out card pendants. 10. Instruct the students that they have been given a job in the educational system, but they don’t know what it is. The object of this activity is to answer the question “What’s My Line?” Students will discover what their position is by asking their fellow students yes-or-no questions until they know what their position/job is.
