STUDENT HANDOUT(S):
STANDARD:
Students will recognize the characteristics of effective teaching.
Students will identify the roles and responsibilities of teachers.
Students will identify rewards and challenges of teaching.
Students will evaluate positive and negative aspects of the teaching profession.
ACTIVITIES:
Part One
1. As a class work assignment, have students make a list of all of their former teachers.
Tell students they are to think about which teachers on the list most positively
influenced them.
2.
Give students an opportunity to talk about the teachers they have named.
Note: It is very important that the teacher establish some guidelines for this discussion. Not
all students will like all the teachers they have had; however, it is very important that the
students understand this discussion is not intended for them to complain about teachers they
may not have enjoyed.
3.
The teacher will then explain that the students are going to interview a former
teacher. Give a copy of the 10 interview questions to each student, and discuss the
questions. As a practice run, the ProTeam teacher should allow the class to ask him/her
the 10 questions, and record the answers. Not only will this be good “interview practice” for
the students, but it will also be a great way for the class to find out more about the
