5. Repeat this procedure for the physical characteristics and the professional
characteristics.
6. Allow time for each group to decide how they want to depict their ideal teacher. The
depiction must include all the characteristics listed on the handout. Provide poster
paper, scissors, markers, and tape.
7. When the students have completed their ideal teacher depiction, allow time for each
group to present their creation to the class.
Note: Use the “Traits of a Good Teacher” handout as a springboard for discussion or
to assist students in thinking of their own characteristics.
ASSESSMENT:
Choose one or both of the following means of assessment:
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT:
v Have the parents/guardians complete the “Characteristics of the Ideal Teacher”
handout and share it with their child. Have the students share with their
parents/guardians the lists they compiled in class. How are the lists similar? How are
they different?
v Have the parents/guardians draw pictures of their ideal teachers, including the
characteristics they would like to see in these teachers. Have the students share with
their parents/guardians their lists of characteristics and the depictions they created in
class.

MODULE 5:
2. Students will develop a list of personal and professional characteristics they would
like to see in themselves should they decide to become a teacher. The list can be
included in their portfolios. Why would they want to have these characteristics?

1. Students will write in their journals about why their Ideal Teacher would be the best
teacher for all students. Did they see characteristics listed by other groups that they
would want included as part of their ideal teacher? Why?
