STANDARD:
Students will recognize the characteristics of effective teaching.
DESCRIPTOR:
Students will describe the traits of an ideal teacher.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Begin the activity by asking students to think of their favorite teacher or teachers.
What was it about this teacher or these teachers that made them their favorites?
2. After giving the students a few minutes to think about this, divide the students into
groups of four or five.
3. Pass out the “Characteristics of the Ideal Teacher” handout and ask the students to
individually complete it.
4. After the students have completed their individual handout, have them compile a final
list of characteristics they will use to create their depiction of their ideal teacher. You
can accomplish this by starting with personal characteristics and allowing each
member of the group to share one characteristic at a time until all the suggestions
have been exhausted. The students should come to a consensus of no more than six
characteristics.
