DESCRIPTOR: Students will identify their own communication styles. ACTIVITIES: Everyone has a unique style of communicating. The students will explore their own communication styles by taking a communication style inventory. 1. Pose the questions: What do we mean when we say that each person has his own communication style? 2. Have them imagine for a moment that they are listening to a conversation among several of their friends. Are some of their friends very direct and get straight to the point? Do others take all day to finally get around to the point they are trying to make? Can they point out friends who never give a clue as to what’s going on in their heads? Help them see that their friends reveal something about their communication styles whenever they communicate with us and vice versa. 3. Distribute the “Communication Style Inventory.” Explain that researchers point to four types of language styles. The inventory will help them find out more about their own communication styles. 4.
