the speaker. Explain that the listeners were asked to count the speaker's words that
began with A, B, and C. Ask the listeners how the scorekeeping affected their ability

4. Distribute a copy of “The NL” handout to each speaker number one. The other
dyad member should not see the sheet. Designate the other member as speaker
number two. Each speaker number two is instructed to start talking to his partner
about any subject other than the one chosen earlier by speaker number one.
