Praising young people positively reinforces their
behaviour and can encourage them to repeat the
desired behaviour or develop further positive skills.
Positive
reinforcement
• Verbal praise
• A phone call home
• A praise note
• Bringing the behavior to
the managers attention
Don’t be fooled, despite the rolling of eyes, teenagers still enjoy
praise, just in a more subtle way. Don’t praise for no good
reason ‘catch them being good’ identify the behaviour that
deserves the praise, ‘it was kind of you to help, thank you’.
‘That’s a great report from school, well done’. Praise without
reason is meaningless.
