BUCK 65 He’s been called the Tom Waits of hip-hop, and that’s as good a label as any for Canadian art-rap renegade Buck 65, aka Richard Terfry. Buck 65’s music started out as hip-hop. There’s still a strong whiff of that tradition, but it has evolved into something else. Taking rap on a charming detour through the backwoods of rock, country, blues and indie-folk, Buck 65 showcases a raft of songs from his extensive back catalogue, and unveils tunes from his brand new album Neverlove. A MOVING PEARSON SOUND AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE After a decade in the wilderness, Josh T. Pearson – one-time frontman to the critically revered but shortlived band Lift to Experience – burst back on to the scene with his 2011 release: the masterful, melancholic Last of the Country Gentlemen, an album that made appearances on many a top 10 list in its year of release and garnered the acclaim of such music luminaries as The Dirty Three, Mark Lanegan and Elbow frontman Guy Garvey. Fronting for a long-awaited Australian premiere, Pearson plies his bruised, confessional and impossibly intimate blending of country and folk – marvels of Southern lyricism and musical salvation. AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE Fusing traditional Taiwanese and Chinese influences with a global sensibility, award-winning ensemble A Moving Sound have built a worldwide following through their joyous mix of music, dance and intoxicating call and response.
