AUSTRALIA FOXTEL FESTIVAL HUB MIKELANGELO MELBOURNE ALBUM LAUNCH Dulcet-toned and immaculately coiffed, Australian troubadour Mikelangelo is best known for his rollicking gypsy yarns and Western-tinged balladry. But for this special series of shows launching his new album Melbourne, he trades the Balkan woodlands and tumbleweed-blown plains for something closer to home – a haunting ode to his adopted hometown. Layered with cinematic visuals, and featuring close to 20 collaborators – including the inimitable Clare St Clare and electronic artist Miles Brown (The Night Terrors) – these performances are a stirring personal tribute to the grey-skied city we call home. FOXTEL FESTIVAL HUB Tue 14 – Thu 16 Oct Tue at 6pm Wed & Thu at 8pm Seated show $35 USA TUBA SKINNY Channeling the upbeat sounds of 1920 New Orleans, globe-trotting jazz phenomenon Tuba Skinny are an eight-piece force of nature. A ragtime whirlwind of tuba, washboard, trombone, banjo and more, Tuba Skinny are driven by their love of Depression-era blues and hollerin’, take-no-prisoners jazz. Playing with barnstorming energy and reckless improvised enthusiasm, they’re the closest you’re going to come to that old fashioned New Orleans sound without access to a damn fine time machine.
