Registration Open for IMSTA FESTA Toronto 2018
Registration is now open for the 2018 edition of IMSTA FESTA Toronto , which will be held on Oct . 13 th from 11 a . m . to 6 p . m . at Ryerson University ’ s Rogers Communications Centre in downtown Toronto .
This free IMSTA FESTA event is open to anyone interested in the art of music making : professional and semi-professional musicians , songwriters , music producers , and audio engineers , as well as music students and educators . It includes an audio and music technology exhibition , studio gear demos , panels and workshops , and a keynote address and Q & A . The 2018 speakers and seminars will be announced in the coming weeks .

MBAV Launched as Subsidiary of Mulvey & Banani International
Greg Rushton , formerly of Mulvey + Banani ’ s AV division , has launched Mulvey & Banani Audio Visual Inc . ( MBAV ), a new and separate company that will continue to operate out of MBII ’ s offices .
MBAV designs systems of audiovisual technologies and tools for a user experience based on the desired functionality and integration with the human interface : equipment , furniture , lighting , controls , and software platforms . … Loud Audio has sold pro loudspeaker brand Martin Audio in a management buyout backed by U . K . -based private equity investor LDC . As part of the deal , LDC , the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group , has invested £ 12 million for a significant stake in the company , alongside its current management team led by Managing Director Dom Harter . Phil Sanchez has been appointed
YAMAHA PRO AUDIO ’ S PHIL SANCHEZ to the position of market development specialist . He has held roles in marketing communications , product development , and product management , most recently with Harman Pro and QSC . Sanchez is based at the company ’ s Buena Park , CA headquarters
Tres Cozad is now the technical marketing specialist for CIS product training , demos , and day-today customer support . Prior to joining the team , he worked in the worship industry and spent several years as a touring sound engineer . He is based in Annapolis , MD .

RIP : Producer & Engineer George Semkiw
George Semkiw , one of Canada ’ s most successful engineers and producers , passed away from cancer on June 14 , 2018 , at the age of 74 . Semkiw worked with some of music ’ s biggest names across almost every genre , including the likes of Duke Ellington , Bachman Turner Overdrive , Lou Reed , Harry Belafonte , Funkadelic , Moe Koffman , and
GEORGE SEMKIW
Daniel Lanois , among many others .
Semkiw ’ s career began as a member of Richie Knight and the Mid-Knights , who were one of the prominent groups on the Yonge St . Strip in the early 1960s . Later , George worked in the mastering rooms of RCA Studios in Toronto in the mid ‘ 60s . He spent nearly a decade in RCA studios , eventually becoming chief engineer . Also a highly regarded studio designer , in 1975 Semkiw oversaw the construction of Phase One Studios in Toronto and then spent four years there as staff engineer and producer . In 1979 , he built his own studio , Amber Sound , which was the first in Canada to feature a digital multitrack recorder and to have five isolation booths .
