Professional Identity Magazine – Sarah Perkins | Page 26

CV Feedback - It is a little crowded at the top of the page - Less detail in the ‘First year’ section - Short explanation of images on ‘work examples’ page - Combine first and second year and focus more on placement and final year images. Cover Letter Feedback - Take out “My name is Sarah Perkins” in cover letter - Re word some sentences - “I am hardworking” instead of “I would say I am hard working” - Reduce final two paragraphs to one more succinct paragraph. Mock Interview Feedback - Really impressed with Cover Letter and CV - Really impressed with how I presented myself and my work - Thought I was enthusiastic - Maybe try and integrate some of the images on your CV into the first page as well - The images for the software skills are slightly confusing. - Reccomend to learn how to use Revit in more depth. Reflection For the CV and Cover letter, I completely agree with the changes that have been made. They both read much more clearly now and the focus is more on the vital information. Personally I thought the interview went really well. I was able to converse with Andrew Field (Stride Treglown) easily and naturally. He started by asking how I was coping during the pandemic, and if I had started searching for jobs which led into an informal conversation regarding holiday plans (which were now cancelled) and travelling which I expressed a great love for in my CV. Andrew asked me about my goals and what inspired me to study architecture and design, I had nott prepared an answer for this particular question which made me a little flustered, however I recovered and explained that I had always been inspired by spaces and architecture. I felt that I led the conversation quite heavily so I was worried I was talking too much and if that was a sign of nerves. In the future I would probaby speak more slowly and less in order to seem calmer. I presented my portfolio in great detail which he seemed quite impressed by and asked lots of questions. I felt this went well as I am passionate about my past projects. Andrew seemed particularly impressed when I spoke about some of the projects I assisted on during my placement year. I asked about the software they use at Stride Treglown and Mr Field replied that they used mostly Revit. He asked if I knew how to use Revit, and I replied that I hasd heard of it and used it once during my second year at University. He seemed quite adamant that I should learn to use this programme in more depth, which I will! One highlight was at the end of the interview where Andrew expressed how impressed he was by the way I presented my work and myself, which I was very pleased about. Overall, I believe that the interview was a success and was really good practice for future interviews! 21
