PROBASHI started a year back as a small initiative by Durga Puja and Cultural Association( DPCA), Faridabad, to start an alternative magazine with a mandate to confine itself exclusively to art, culture, literature, history, stories of human endeavour and remember individuals, institutions and events which have made this world a better place to live in. It is said our heritage and ideals, our codes and standards ‐ the things we live by and teach our children ‐ are preserved or diminished by how freely we exchange ideas and feelings. Probashi wants to take this forward, and if the feedback from our readers is an indicator, we are on the right path.
However we have failed in one aspect. We had not foreseen the overwhelming response for PROBASHI. The magazine initially brought out for private circulation has now regular readers in India and abroad with the last issue going into 1000 copies. Though we have started a net edition; the demand for a print copy remains high, with one letter even calling Probashi a collector’ s item. We acknowledge the applause‐ but the increased circulation means increased printing budget. The editorial team which gives its time completely on voluntary basis has tried to keep up with the demand, garneringg private donations and sponsorships, the association also provides a lump sum subsidy, but this has not been enough.
We do not want to close down, we do not want to truncate the relationship we have with our readers and we will not become populist to gain advertisement revenuee. We wish to persevere and we appeal for your support. Donation with no minimum prescribed is requested. We do assure that for all contributions of Rs. 250 or above would ensuree that four issues of PROBASHI will be delivered at your doorstep. The list of donors will be published in every issue of PROBASHI. Help us; we willl not let you down
