Sherborne Windows, Vision Conservatories and Panoramic Windows have created three spectacular installations and scooped the latest winning places in the Atlas Installation of the Month competition.
A fabulous Skyroom demonstration model at Sherborne Windows’ showroom impressed a family from Ascot in Berkshire. With teenage children to accommodate, the owners wanted to create extra space at the rear of their property and had settled on a traditional Edwardian-style conservatory to mirror their neighbours.
Vision Conservatories created a real showpiece installation on a period property in Wiltshire which ultimately helped the owners to sell their home. The 4.8 x 4 metre extension was cleverly designed to fill an unsightly dead space in the garden and bring light into
|
an otherwise dark zone. It combined an eclectic mix of building materials- reclaimed bricks, cedar cladding, glass and aluminium- and was crowned with a large pyramid lantern roof to bring a striking and unique flavour to the property.
Bristol-based Panoramic Windows showcased their fine design skills when they created a sensational light-filled Skyroom on a detached village property in North Somerset. The retired owners wanted an elegant extension to connect with their garden and had originally set their minds on a conventional orangery. They had a complete change of heart however when they saw the Atlas Skyroom on display at Panoramic Windows’ showroom.

Just 37 minutes and three attempts is the average time it takes Britons to try their hand at a failed DIY task before giving up, according to research.
A survey of 2,000 UK homeowners by BuyMetalOnline. co. uk revealed that a notso-handy 62 % of the population have tried and failed at a household DIY task in the past 12 months.
78 % confessed they would try to fix their household DIY problem before calling in a professional, with 32 % attempting their own repairs to save money, and 27 % doing so to save time.
Britons listed building flat pack furniture( 68 %), painting( 56 %), putting up a shelf( 38 %), wiring a socket( 31 %), and fixing a leaking tap( 26 %) among the top five DIY tasks they struggle to tackle.
As a result, the top five trades Britons turn to in times of need include electrical( 59 %), decorating( 52 %), plumbing( 31 %), building / construction( 29 %), and joinery( 23 %).
Sara Halman, managing director at BuyMetalOnline. co. uk said:“ It seems the art of DIY is dying out among the British population, with more recent generations being
|
able to turn their hand to technical computer-based problems as opposed to hands-on DIY tasks.
“ Attempting to fix the problem yourself is one way to save money. However, if the job is hazardous or beyond your skill set, it is best handled by a trained and qualified professional. There is no shame in turning to a professional to ensure the job is done properly and to the highest safety standards.”
Young homeowners( those aged 25-34) called out a tradesperson five times on average in the past 12 months, compared to those aged 55-64 who did so just once.
Those in Newcastle admitted to the highest number of professional help call outs, with an average of four call outs to a tradesperson in the past 12 months, while those in Edinburgh made an average of two.
