Whilst a number of the issues in the Cumbrian flood resilience scheme - fol- lowing the devastating Storm Desmond in 2015 - relate to locking mechanisms, the potential for fasteners to cause the failure of a flood door is high unless austenitic stainless steel are used. Fasteners manu- factured from this type of metal – usually grades A2 or A4 – offer the highest level of resistance to corrosion throughout a door’s service life of more than twenty years. David Furness, MD of Rapierstar says: “Because the fasteners are the smallest components, it’s easy to take them for granted. But with flood doors being ex- posed to the harshest of environments, es- pecially in areas with regular flood events, it’s vital that the most durable fasteners are used to avoid handles, hinges, locking sys- tems and other hardware becoming loose or detached.” As the UK’s largest supplier of special- ist fasteners to the UK and Irish door and window industry, Rapierstar is uniquely positioned to advise doorset manufactur- ers on which fasteners to use for different applications. The company also supports fabricators in the development and testing of all types of doors to ensure they can achieve essential performance certifica- tion, including PAS 1188-1:2014 for flood doors. www.rapierstar.com Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cumbria-47203766 Q1 SALES THROUGH THE ROOF FOR LANTERN 2.0 PRODUCTS PROMINENT IN POWER STATION’S SPECIFICATION The creation of a major ac- commodation complex to house workers constructing the new Hinkley Point C nuclear power station has included the use of il- lbruck ME011 Breather Membrane, together with other products from the illbruck brand range of tremco illbruck. Already a long-established supplier to Caledonian Modular, il- lbruck was selected to supply sys- tem solutions for making almost 1,500 bedroom and living units both airtight and weathertight be- fore leaving the offsite specialist’s Nottinghamshire factory. ME011 is a highly vapour open breather membrane which can be left fully exposed to sunlight for up to six months, and is also suited to semi-visible applications because it has a matt black, unbranded appear- ance. The membrane can be applied direct to sheathing boards or over rigid insulation panels before being covered by rainscreen cladding and curtain walling. It can be supplied with self-adhesive edge strips or, as in this case, installed using illbruck ME315 Total Protection Tape, as well as illbruck SP525 Frame and Façade Sealant & Adhesive. www.tremco-illbruck.co.uk Atlas Glazed Roof Solutions has credited its new Lantern 2.0 for exceptional sales in the first quarter of 2019; up by 26% on last year. Atlas re-mastered its indus- try-leading lantern to feature a fully aluminium, thermally broken ringbeam, which has been reduced in size by 55%. The new lantern also incorporates a 25% thinner refined ridge topcap to achieve incredibly slim sightlines. The height of the ridge top cap has also been trimmed by nearly 50%, making it much less obtru- sive from the outside. For a neat appearance, the internal ridge, transom rafters and hips are the same 40mm width and, no boss or hoods to intrude on the roof’s super-slim ridge. It is also one of the strongest glazed roofing systems available and, despite its ample glazing, delivers outstanding thermal performance; the rafter can achieve a U-value of up to 0.9 W/m2k with triple glazing.
