SLEEK ARCHITECTURAL
PRODUCTS ON SHOW
A collection of clever and
cutting edge architectural prod-
ucts from all over the world
– including the German door
handle pictured - were on show
at the ARCHITECT@WORK event
in London.
The London edition of this
global, two-day event aimed at
architects, designers and specifi-
ers was held at Olympia National
Hall at the end of January.
All exhibitors go through a
rigorous selection process, with
an external judging panel over-
seeing the product selection, to
ensure that the event is one of
the UK’s most highly respected
trade shows of its kind. Over 100
leading suppliers showcased their
innovative products and services,
which included the latest in sur-
face solutions, lighting technology
as well as fixtures and fittings.
The Cosmos Black door han-
dle shown is from manufacturer
Karcher, part of its Black Edition
range. The finish is applied elec-
trostatically as a powder coat-
ing and does not require use of
solvents, creating an eco-friendly
high-quality product.
The handles are scratchproof as
well as highly resistant to corro-
sion and the surface itself fells
warm and smooth, not unlike that
of a palm stone.
Other highlights of the show
included Cupa Pizarras’ Cupaclad
Design Honeycomb: new rain-
screen cladding system in natural
slate, and new Coverlam NEXO
tiles made from laminated porce-
lain from Spanish manufacturer
Grespania.
Louage & Wisselinck showed
the Chameleon Slide and Chame-
leon Self-Supporting Pocket Door.
This is a discrete, invisible sliding
door that combines the best of a
swing door with a sliding door.
Canal Engineering showed
Bespoke Feature Staircases made
from mild steel, timber, laminated
glass, stainless steel and other
bespoke materials. The cantilever
stair is a beam anchored at only
one end, allowing the protruding
construction overhang without
any external bracing. The sim-
plistic design of the overhanging
tread has allowed for the design
of some striking concepts, moving
away from the straight flight of
stairs commonly seen. The stair
can be designed in many styles
including straight, quarter turn,
half turn, helical and curved. The
stair needs no support underneath
or between the treads, creating a
vision of open space and a ‘float-
ing’ appearance.
NEW HEIGHTS FOR HARDWARE BRAND
Sales director Richard Reeve will now be exclusively looking after
Axim Architectural Hardware, one of the major divisions of TPG, The
Parkside Group Ltd. We caught up with Richard to find out more.
Richard has been with
TPG for 15 years and is excit-
ed to take the leading hard-
ware brand to even greater
heights. He said, “Axim is
one of the most trusted
brands in the industry for re-
liability and quality. Axim cel-
ebrated 30 years of business
last year and having worked
throughout the industry I
know that the Axim TC-8800
series of Concealed Tran-
som Closers is well known
for its superb long-term
performance and as part of
TPG, Axim, is backed up by
market leading delivery to its
European wide distributor
and partner network.”
During the last 30 years
Axim has extensively devel-
oped its product range to
include all the hardware that
top quality commercial doors
require. Richard commented:
“Just about everyone knows
the top performer - the
Axim TC Series of Concealed
Closers; however, I am not
sure that everyone is aware
of how extensive the Axim
product range actually is. For
example, the Axim PR Series
Panic Exit range is compre-
hensive, and the Axim Panic
Exit Locking Handle is one of
the most high-quality prod-
ucts I have seen which fits
across the entire range.”
The Axim branded product
range includes Emergency
and Panic Exit Devices that
are certified to BS EN 179
and BS EN 1125, a range of
handles including D-handles,
Lever Handles, Pad Han-
dles, Pull Handles and Tube
Handles, Floor Springs which
can take a door weight of up
to 150Kg, Locks including
Mortice, Dead Latch, Exten-
sion Flush Bolts for security
slave doors.
A solution for
aluminium &
timber doors
Richard continued: “Axim
is known very well in the
aluminium door industry;
however, the Surface Mount-
ed Door Closer, the Axim FC
Series, offers a solution for
both aluminium and timber
doors; in fact, it even comes
as standard with fixings to
suit both materials. This
means that installers and
distributors can minimise
the closers they carry, and
the Axim FC-1000 Series has
been tested for Fire Rating to
