BUILDING OUR SKILLS LAUNCHES ACTION PLAN FOR 2022-23

Building Our Skills - Making Fenestration , Glass and Glazing a Career of Choice has launched its action plan for the next twelve months . The plan reflects the campaign ’ s commitment to bridging the skills gap by working closely with employers and other organisations to attract new entrants to the industry .
The action plan also seeks to set out the benefits to employers of upskilling their existing workforce as a tool to offset skills gaps , inspiring and encouraging them to see the industry as a home for their long-term career ambitions , as opposed to just a job ‘ for now ’. The plan will see the development of a career role portal to showcase the sheer breadth of career paths that the industry can offer those looking to make it the home for their career ambitions , and in addition , an employers ’ forum is to be created by Building Our Skills to get input and ideas into the best ways to try and face the challenges the skills gap presents . The whole plan is underpinned by a wide range of opportunities for industry businesses and personnel to get involved and contribute energy and ideas .
Central to the plan will be a focus on wider engagement with the Education Sector in order to raise awareness of the industry to a potential workforce of tomorrow .
The focus on the Education Sector will see Building Our Skills develop its ‘ Inspiring the
Future ’ campaign further . This campaign has been designed by the Education and Employers Organisation , a charity aligned to the Department for Education , specifically to connect the education sector with the world of work . It operates by asking for volunteers to visit schools to inform youngsters about the exciting possibilities for their future careers if they join industry . Building Our Skills has its own , dedicated industry page on the Education and Employers website , and is actively recruiting volunteers . Also in its plan to target the Education Sector is a brand new ‘ Inspiration Days ’ programme , designed to open up industry factories and facilities for school visits . Government direction is now for school children to have seven exposures to industry during their time at school , and this new initiative represents a perfect opportunity for the industry to show off its credentials as a viable career option .
