AND LUMI THAT’S A WRAP
Crewe-based Aurora Win-
dows has no problem putting
Apeer and Lumi doors next to
cheaper alternatives, as co-direc-
tor Chris Upton explained: “It’s
more than just offering more
choice – it’s a real opportunity
to upsell because they work and
feel so much better.”
Aurora first looked at Apeer
because it had a 70mm door that
other suppliers couldn’t match.
But, he added: “Once we had it, we
saw the customers were noticing
it too; they can also see why they
are paying a bit more, and they
obviously like that. It’s very easy
for any door retailer to offer the
same as everyone else, but we
want to be better than that and Ap-
eer, Lumi and Silka are the perfect
products for us to do just that.”
The Lumi system is even more
of a differentiator for Aurora so it
almost goes without saying that
Chris is looking very seriously
at extending the offer to include
Lumi2 as well as Apeer’s new
smooth-skin Silka door, as he
explained: “Lumi really is unique,
something no other company
nearby can match and the way
people are drawn to it in the
showroom makes that very clear,
and because showroom visitors
are looking for retrofit, the Lumi2
system would fit in very well. We
also have good demand for high-
end aluminium doors so Silka
would fit in very well there, not
only as a lower-priced alternative
to ali but also a unique finish in
its own right.”

Epwin Window Systems has taken delivery of the
world’s first Luna R automatic profile wrapping
machine, which takes foiling to the next level.
The Luna R is able to wrap
even the most complex of pro-
files perfectly. In addition, the
machine reduces set up times,
providing additional capacity and
product accuracy.

profiles continue to grow in
popularity, fabricators and in-
stallers will need to match cus-
tomers’ increasing expectations.

Epwin Window Systems has a

HIGH QUALITY RETIREMENT HOUSING
DEVELOPMENT GETS A NEW VIEW
Profile 22’s Optima windows
were specified in the develop-
ment of 26 one- and two-bed-
room apartments in a retirement
development in Upper Norwood,
London. Lewis House is a devel-
opment from McCarthy & Stone,
the UK’s leading retirement
housebuilder, and included 97
windows and 26 door and sight-
light combinations.
The project was undertaken
by Profile 22 Approved Window
Installer Newview Homes Ltd.
The company is one of the larg-
est installation companies in the
South East and is the one of the
few UK installation companies to
hold both ISO 9001 for Quality
Management and ISO 14001 for
Environmental Management.
The window specification
required a U value of 1.4 wm2/k
on all windows and Secured by
Design accreditation on ground
floor and easily accessible first
floor windows. Acoustic glazing
was also required because Lewis
House is situated on a busy road
so traffic noise needed to be
minimised. Visually, the local
authority had requested a grey
exterior to give a modern appear-
ance and provide a close match
to aluminium.
Newview used Profile 22’s Op-
tima 70mm casement windows in
smooth slate grey on white with
28mm Low E sealed glass units.
The windows were manufactured
by Newview’s long term fabrica-
tion partner, Emplas Window Sys-
tems Ltd, one of the UK’s largest
window and door fabricators.
Newview is an experienced
commercial installer used to
working on new build devel-
opments so was well-placed to
ensure installation ran smoothly
and coordinated with all other
trades on site.
