Eurocell Recycles Record Number of PVC-U Frames in 2018
Eurocell plc, the UK’s leading manu-
facturer, distributor and recycler of PVC-U
window, door, conservatory and roofline
systems, has announced it processed a
record number of post-consumer window
profiles in 2018, recycling in excess of
1.2million frames.
Having invested c£10m over the past
decade in increasing its recycling facilities,
the company exceeded its 2017 inputs of
post-consumer material by over 15%. As
a result of this achievement, Eurocell was
able to produce 12,500 tonnes of products
made from recycled material at its Midlands-
based plant during 2018.
The process of recycling window profiles
allows the entire lifespan of the product to
become more sustainable. When windows
reach the end of their life, they are shred-
ded, granulated and micronised. Using the
granulated PVC-U, Eurocell then extrudes
new profiles. This process can be repeated
up to ten times using the same material,
giving recycled PVC-U windows a lifespan
of up to 350 years.

QUICKSLIDE VERTICAL SLIDERS
CONTINUE TO COMPLY
Yorkshire based manufac-
turer Quickslide are determined to
keep their award-winning Vertical
Sliding windows at the forefront
of the fenestration industry, having
developed high security compo-
nents to ensure the product now
passes the test for PAS 24:2016.
When in the late 90’s formal
testing was introduced, it became
compulsory for manufacturers to
comply in return for certification
of security. Along with this came
an assurance that units can keep
out bad weather. Quickslide’s tran-
sition from its vertical sliders’ ini-
tial certification of BS7412:2002 to
PAS 24:2016 has certainly present-
ed challenges – each test requiring
additional and more enhanced
features. By working closely with
their hardware suppliers to design
fit for purpose add-ons, the recent
journey to success was made far
simpler.
As 2018 winners of the Nation-
al Fenestration Awards’ Vertical
Sliding Company of the Year
category, Quickslide have proven
they know what consumers want.
In support of the environment
and their customers’ budgets,
Quickslide’s draught free product
houses ‘Low E’ glass for improved
heat retention, and a superior A+
energy rating where required. A
deep bottom rail option replicates
true Victorian sash windows,
specifically when complimented
with authentic, run-through sash
horns.
By default, the units also tick
the compliance boxes for Secured
by Design (SBD) approval. The of-
ficial UK police Flagship initiative
withdrew PAS 24:2012 in favour
of the simplified test methods and
wider encompassing PAS 24:2016
in February 2016, and all compa-
nies who are SBD approved need-
ed to ensure they met the new
standards by 1st October 2018.
