AN
UNEXPECTED
MISSION
With just 15 days left before heading home,
a British PMC is called down to Helmand on
a ten-day mission
While working out in Afghanistan I was one of the most senior CP operators in
country at that time and having visited most of the Northern Regions, either by
road or Hurc, I was approached to go on a mission down in Helmand. Obviously
I can’t go into too much detail but the mission was down south and it was to last
for 10 days.
I got a lift with all my kit from where I was staying and headed along the Jahbad
Road into Kabul to pick up the client I was to BG for. As is so often the case I had
never heard of the bloke before, nor clamped eyes on him but now I was to look
after him for the next 10 days - and I had only been given the Sat phone, grid ref,
8
emergency RVs and what back up I had the night before.
