The Journey
On 3rd of March, 2016 year 9 and 10 boys embarked on a field trip to Al- Ain to immerse ourselves in fun, non-expensive and safe activities with friends. We arrived at school like any other day – except this wasn’t any ordinary day- the whole class room was abuzz (10 B) and students were blasting music through their portable blue-tooth speakers and making a ruckus of the excitement and joy. After parting ways with students who opted to stay in school, we boarded the buses to Al-Ain.
The arrival of chaos
As soon as we reached the venue, we rushed to get in as the first of the activities start at 10:00am sharp! While some students queued up at the gate to receive their tickets,a few others clicked selfies.
I applied sun screen and put on my rash guard and we were off to our first activity, rafting. However an error occurred, the year 9’s went ahead and we were left behind, so, instead of wallowing in the blistering heat, we went on the air park! And yet again, we were split into two groups, students to take on level 2 and students to take on level 1.
Embracing the fear
As I walked the first board of the 2nd level, I realized how much I loved the ground. The fear was so strong in me I felt like giving up (could you blame me, I was suspended 50 feet above ground and walking on a steel cable!). As I got closer to the final course, I realized that my fear was irrational and I was completely safe in the grip of my harness and jut floated through to the end.
As my friends Omar, Alisher and I walked down the first course, we realized that some students couldn’t tolerate their fear of heights and/or falling. Luckily Omar, Alisher and I blazed through the course.
