Botswana CWA Country of study 2014 Hay Branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) held a luncheon at the Hay Services Club to celebrate International Day. Ladies have been studying Botswana this year and Sue Flynn, who lived and worked in Botswana from 1994 to 2007, was invited as guest speaker. Sue says “Botswana is very dear to me. It holds a very special place in my heart.” Born in the United Kingdom, Sue grew up with a love of Enid Blyton stories which she attributes to encouraging her adventurous nature. When a job opportunity was offered in the African country of Botswana, she gladly accepted and so started her love affair with the people and her new environment. Sue shared stories of weddings, witch doctors and Christmas parties. Guest speaker Sue Flynn with assistant International Officer Fiona Gaston. After lunch of a traditional Botswanan chicken dish and lemon meringue pie, guests were treated to insights about Botswana that no encyclopaedia or travel brochure could capture. Before guests arrived CWA members from around the district held their Group meeting. Members from those branches stayed to enjoy lunch and catch up with Hay members. Next on the agenda for the CWA is the annual tea stand at the Hay Show. After lunch sweets trolley laden with homemade lemon meringue pie Mrs Edna Finch, Hay CWA International Officer was instrumental in gaining much of the information on Botswana to share with members.
