Sausage Sizzle outside IGA 13th Sept Hay Guides are working towards their Ready for Action badges; The International Service Challenge helps guides, as part of their patrols, to learn through practical and fun activities to offer service to others around the world. Part of the challenge for this badge is to organise fundraising activities for chosen charities and advertise those activities. The above advert, posters and radio advertising have all been the responsibility of the girls, with a little help from guide leaders. This challenge improves leadership, communication, organisational and project management skills, as well as shows a guide can help make the world a better place. Through the Ready for Action badge, Guides will find out about new countries and communities and how practical action can make a difference. The program also encourages girls to advocate for a better world for those they are helping. The Guides are also raising money for Taronga Park Zoo. In the past decade giraffe numbers have declined by 40%.There are only an estimated 80,000 giraffes remaining in the wild. This year Girl Guides NSW and ACT aim to help this declining population. Hay Guides are holding a fundraiser at the Annual Hay Show, where patrons can purchase a ‘spot’ to place on one of the giraffes which form the girls display. 23
