Work starts on Auscott
Cotton Gin Project
Hay Mayor, Bill Sheaffe had the honour of turning the first soil at the
Auscott Cotton Gin site early in June.
Work has apready commenced on a roadway between the site and the
Mungadale gravel pit, thus reducing traffic on the main road. The gravel
will be used to build the bulk pad which will commence late June and
work is expected to commence on building structures early in July.
CEO (Auscott ) Mr Harvey Gaynor made the following statement, “After
receiving all required approvals we are delighted to be breaking earth
today and starting full steam on construction of Auscott Gin #11 at Hay.
Our aim is to have the plant constructed and running as soon as
possible to support the growers in the expanding cotton industry in the
area. When operating, this plant will give growers access to the most
up to date technology and an experienced and professional
ginning and marketing team. As cotton growers ourselves we
look forward to seeing our product going through the plant
and to a long future for our people and our Company as part
of the Hay community.
The local community, council and industry have given us
fantastic support thus far and we look forward to repaying
the confidence shown in us.”
“It is great to see lots of interest with Mayor, Councillors and
various media present,” said Senior Project Engineer, Daniel
Draheim. Pictured right, Daniel explained the layout of the
new facility to Tertia Butcher (Riverine Grazier), councillors
and council staff. Mr. Draheim also informed those present
that where possible Auscott will use local suppliers and work
force during and after construction.
Staff at the Auscott office in Moore Street are already
receiving résumés from those seeking employment and
Daniel said, “Resumes can be received at the office, no
matter your skill set. There will be a mixture of jobs for both
qualified and labouring positions.”
Auscott have already become involved in the community
with a donation towards the CASE bike ride to Canberra
and sponsorship of the Hay Cutters Rugby Union team.
The company also sponsor high school scholarships for
students going on to university. Hay War Memorial High
school is certain to be a recipient of one of these
scholarships.
And just as a side note: Auscott wastes as little as
possible of cotton by products and the plastic covering the
cotton bales is recycled.
Phil Ruddick, General Manager Allen Dwyer and Greg
Stewart, Council’s Infrastructure Manager, survey the
scene at Auscott’s #11 Gin Site. The gin should be fully
operational by the 2014/15 cotton season.
