Stop, Revive, Survive
Hay SES (State Emergency Service) volunteers were out on the last
Saturday of the Easter School Holidays. Manning the Driver Reviver
station on the Sturt Highway, volunteers offered drivers tea, coffee or
soup and cake and biscuits. Robertsons Bakery is a supporter of the
safe driving initiative and donated fresh bread and cakes for the day.
Many drivers took rest break at the stop centre and were appreciative of
a “cuppa and snack” as well as “a bit of fun company to break the
journey” as one motorist put it.
Grandparents on their way to meet a new baby, students, a job seeker
on his way to Sydney and grey nomads were among those who were
refreshed before continuing their journeys.
Volunteers also talked to those taking a rest, about Hay and all the
great things about the town.

The red bookworm sits on my front counter

token of the Paint the Town REaD Launch.
The red and black bookworm is over 30
years old and was brought in to the Printed
Post office for a visit by a reader. Aren’t
they cute?

procedure 5 more times in the same chain.
3. Go to next 5 chains and repeat the above procedure, putting 6
double crochet stitches in each chain. As you crochet you will notice
the corkscrew begins to form, and that's what you want to happen.
4. When you have completed this you will have 36 stitches total for the
body of the worm, leaving a long chain.
5. Slip stitch the last of the corkscrew stitches to the chain and fasten
off.
6. Weave the remainder of the yarn back through the body of the
bookworm and into the chain.
7. Make two small dots of glue on what will become the eyes of the
bookworm and press one of the bug eyes firmly into each dot. Allow
to dry thoroughly before using.
