Find - A - Word Australia Day Did you know... Peacocks roamed freely around the town of Hay around 25-30 years ago. According to Peter ‘Parra’ Montgomery, “They used to perch on top of the Old Commonwealth Bank and make 'deposits'...Splatt.” While some residents miss them, others were not keen on the mess and the noise. Marg Myers remembers there were also Kangaroos and Emus at the Hay Park. It appears that new legislation or regulation sometime in the 1980’s made it inappropriate for these birds and animals to be allowed to roam around unsupervised. Interesting facts: The collective name for group of peacocks is a party. A family of peacocks is a bevy. A group of peahens (females) is a harem. Peacocks can live up to 20 years.
