New Museum
Addition
Hay Gaol Museum is home to many
of the districts old windmills, all over
100 years old, which needed to be
dismantled and rebuilt at the
museum. Volunteers including, but
not limited to, Carl Miller, Jim Bissett,
Ted Young, Tim Matt and John
Matthews have all spent time on the
refurbishment and rebuilding of the
exhibits.
The latest completed addition to the
collection is a Billabong model,
rescued from ‘the McCorrmicks
Paddock’ at the back of the rice mill.
John Matthews spent 4 years
reconditioning the windmill which had
the final touch, replacement of the
blades, added early in January.
Note: As in anything ‘build it yourself’,
the last bolt was the most difficult to
install.
John Matthews and son, Graham, installing the blades on the newest complete
windmill at the Hay Gaol Museum. Two of the original blades were badly
damaged and John reconstructed two new ones.
Lionslotto New Look for Take-A-Mark
The Hay Lion’s football club ’Take-A-Mark’ lottery has
changed it’s name to ’Lionslotto’. With the new name
comes the chance for bigger wins. Starting with a minimum
prize pool of $2,000, Lionslotto is an easy game to play.
Punters choose six numbers from a possible twenty
numbered boxes on the entry ticket. Over a period of time
the prize pool increases and the amount
of numbers to choose from decreases.
At the end of January the prize was
$3,000 with six numbers to be chosen
from only fourteen of the numbered
boxes.
Take-A-Mark started ten years ago and
raises funds for the Hay Lions AFL
(Australian Football League) and
Netball Clubs enabling the general running of the club and
the purchase of equipment.
Costing $2 for two games, tickets are available at the New
Crown Hotel, Foodworks, Sportsfirst, the Riverina Hotel,
Crazy Clarkes, Macka’s Meats and Harrison’s I.G.A.
The lottery is a great way to support a local sporting club
with the bonus of the chance to win big money.
