Mother Nature Takes a Break cont. Wehttam’s main worry was Atteir. She often went out on a storm trip depressed. CHAPTER SEVEN The interviews with Clime and Eus were interesting and informative. Cyan now had a better idea of the personalities he was dealing with. He also had a clearer view of the major conflicts. He understood that Nino was causing the problems within the department. He was curious to know just how big the problem really was. His first interview was to be with Wehttam “I can’t work in a depression. The atmosphere is to low for any sort of show. She has no enthusiasm. It’s so frustrating,” Wehttam complained. The interview with Enyahs seemed to go on forever. The young man talked endlessly but said very little of importance. Cyan found him easy going and quite amiable to all of his suggestions. It was obvious from his statements that Enyahs was in co-hoots with Wehttam if there was mischief to be had. However he felt that Wehttam wanted to be in on every storm and would get carried away with his self. On his way to Cyan’s office Wehttam met Nino. Nino, obviously still stinging about the threat of the new contract, had informed Wehttam that he was not going to sign anything. “You can all go to Hades!” he screamed. “We don’t have to have lightning every time there is a storm. Sometimes Atteir and Yelhsa and I are sent out to alleviate a dry spell. We don’t need all the fanfare that Wehttam brings. “ “I will make sure none of you can do your jobs properly. That nonentity isn’t telling me what I can and can’t do. Who does he think he is?” Wehttam replied that Cyan was the new boss. Enyahs only had one stipulation to the board. He wanted Nino excluded. “You’ll do as you are told. You’re the one stuffing up the whole system. Maybe Cyan can achieve what Mother Nature couldn‘t.” He concluded. Yelhsa had almost floated into his interview. He didn’t say much but smiled a lot. Clime prodded him into speaking. Yelhsa was also against Nino. He liked the rest of his co-workers, but agreed with Enyahs that Wehttam didn’t need to always come along. He also agreed that Atteir was depressed sometimes and not enough rain fell where they were sent or if she was teary too much fell and flooded the area they were working. Nino threw a punch at Wehttam, catching him on the chin, and ran off. Wehttam, who had been caught by surprise at Nino‘s attack, hadn’t had a chance to send a decent lightning bolt after Nino until it was too late. The bolt he did fire hit the ground a couple of meters from Nino‘s feet. So much for Clime’s assertion that Nino didn’t go around bashing people. Wehttam and Enyahs were his heroes. Wehttam, sparks flying, arrived at Cyan’s office in a foul mood. Cyan learned that Wehttam and Nino had been adversaries for more than twenty years. Over time the two had developed an intense hatred for one another. He felt lonely sometimes and would go down to Earth to drift for a while watching the world go ‘round. He was excited that a human poet named Wordsworth had even written a poem about him… The idea of a Board of Management appealed to Wehttam, so long as Nino had no part in it. He didn’t see a problem in the team work at Weather. He told Cyan that he got on well with most of the other division heads but found some of them had no sense of adventure. ”I wandered lonely as a cloud.” No matter that the poem was actually about daffodils, Enyahs took great pride in the famous poet’s words. He was so relaxed Cyan thought he was going to fall asleep. He enjoyed a little joke every now and then. His lightning bolts from nowhere had even spawned a saying on Earth. “Have to strain your ears to hear that one sometimes.” Clime had informed Cyan. “He won't want to be a member of the board.” “Like a bolt from the blue.” Cyan was pleased that Clime agreed with his own opinion. He had laughed then, the sparks around him settling down as his good humour returned. The office door had just closed behind Yelhsa when there was a disturbance in Maude's office. Thunder rolled and Ellechim’s voice vibrated the walls. The door banged open and in strode Ellechim, the floor trembling with her every step. “You gotta love it!” Cyan looked over at Clime and saw he was trying not to smile. 25
