World Champion from Hay
We may be a small town, in the middle of everywhere, but that
doesn't mean there are no opportunities for our sports people on the
world stage. Our most recent World Champion comes in the disguise
of a quiet achiever, David Harrison.
David has been racing Motocross for 41 years and at the age of sixty
reached the pinnacle of his sport. Racing in the 2013 World Veterans
Motocross Championships, held in California (USA), David was
promoted from ‘C’ grade to ‘B’ grade after beating Hans Kennpvik of
Sweden.
According to Judy Jarratt, in a letter to the Printed Post and the
Grazier, “They ran the A & B classes on the track at the same time,
with a double gate drop. Dave was battling with Terry Messer of the
USA, one of the A grade riders through-out the race, lapping with the
same times but just unable to make the pass.”
“These races go for 5 laps or 15minutes and on a track about 3 km
long. Dave won the B Grade class on the Sunday making him the C &
B Grade Over 60’s WORLD Motocross Champion for 2013.”
David is modest about the win in a sport he loves, and was inclined to
not publicise his new status as World Champion. If not for Judy
Jarratt we may never have gotten the opportunity to be proud for one
of our own. Judy’s letter finishes, “This is a phenomenal achievement,
a World Champion, with a dedication and love for the sport that is
second to none. As Dave is a humble man I
would like to point out the magnitude of this
achievement.”
“Congratulations Dave Harrison WORLD
CHAMPION.”
Thank you Judy for the information.
Todd Jarratt - achieving his dreams
2013 has been a huge year for local Hay resident, Todd Jarratt. Not only has he completed his HSC and finished school,
but whilst doing so, he also travelled the country racing motocross at both a state and national level. This year, while
juggling study and racing, Todd was able to place 5th and 7th respectively in the A Grade Lites and Under 19 Years
classes against the best riders in Victoria in the Senior Victorian Motocross Championships. In Todd’s eyes, his greatest
achievement was competing in the Senior National Motocross Championships (MX Nationals) where he consistently
placed inside the top 20 of the fastest under 19 year old racers in Australia.
Now, only weeks after completing his final HSC exams, Todd has been offered early entry to study his desired course in
the Bachelor of Exercise Science and Masters of Exercise Physiology at La Trobe University in Bendigo. Within the past
two months Todd has been confirm
