Local horse takes the Gold
Local horse owner, John Clark wept tears of joy as the
crowd at the Hay Races broke into thunderous applause
and cheers when last years bridesmaid, Ruby Diamonds,
crossed the finish line well ahead of all other horses in the
Elders Gold Cup . According to ‘Frog’ Edwards, “The last
time John won a race, I was a track rider . The horse was
Trumpfire and John was the trainer.” Mr Edwards did not
say how long ago that was, but ‘Frog” is no spring chicken
so it was a few years ago.
Attendance numbers were up on last year as an estimated
1,500 people arrived at the Hay Race Course for a day of
some great country racing. A hen’s party travelled from
Hillston, a bucks party from ‘away’, the informant was a
little hard to understand due to a ‘bundy speech
impediment’, reunions were held and everyone had an
enjoyable day. Even the rain held off until just after the last
race.

Amongst the many who couldn't wait
to congratulate John on his win, were
his grand children.
