August saw Hays only round of Junior Rugby League played, at the Hay Park ovals. Group 20 Junior Rugby League, which incorporates Hay, Griffith, Leeton, Yanco, Narrandera, Hillston, Colleambally, Darlington Point and Lake Cargellico all are offered a round/s of football at the start of the football season. Hay only received one round this year; there were 12 rounds and 2 knockouts. Hay ended up with Round 10. League tag and Rugby league are played on the day. There were approximately 800 kids, 59 games of football played over the day. Ages for players: under 7's to under 14's for rugby league. Then the league tag is for mini's which is ages group 5 to 9, Mods 10 to 12 years and International league tag for 12 to 15 year old girls. “It is a massive job to organize a day such as this but it is so worth it. Family, friends and supporters can come along on the day to see Hay kids playing! Which due to the amount of travel its normally only parents who get to see their children play”, says Serena Wall, one of the organizers and parent. “We had a lot of people come along on the day to help ref games which was really appreciated and people that helped in the lead up to marking up fields etc. Then all the people that helped on the day - its so amazing to be a part of a community that pulls together to help pull off something like this for the youth of Hay. Makes me very Round 10 Junior Football proud to be a part of the HJRL committee and of Hay!” The Hay JRL have submitted their interest for 2 rounds next year which will be up for consideration and decision at the Group AGM in October. “… it is something that I am very passionate about! I love my footy and I would like to see Junior footy grow in Hay and anything that we can do to keep kids coming back to play the greatest game of all, RUGBY LEAGUE!” says Serena of the clubs hopes for next season. Presentation night for Junior Rugby League will be held on Friday 20th September, with presentations commencing from about 7pm. 23
