Booligal Remembers
Dawn Service in Hay starts at the cenotaph in Lachlan Street then moves to the monument at the Hay Cemetery. Although ANZAC morning was rather cool, veterans and families turned out in good numbers. RSL President‘ Frog’ Edwards lays wreaths on behalf of the RSL followed by representatives of families and organisations to pay their respects. A hot breakfast was enjoyed by all after the ceremonies, provided by the Hay Services Club.
Captain Peter Bowers, Royal Australian Navy H. Q Joint Operations Command( Bungendore) and Lieutenant Colonel Richard Watson, Canberra, defence force representatives visiting Hay for ANZAC Day.
Lt. Col Watson is also an ex-student HWMHS and his father was a history teacher at the school.
Benson Lucas brought his 1974 Pinzguer Swiss Army Truck home for the ANZAC March. One of only sixteen in Australia, the truck was made in Austria and is a six wheel, left hand drive. The truck has been from Hay to Karratha( W. A) along dirt, gravel, corrugated roads, and back to Hay. Benson discovered that the one and only petrol station on the way was closed and had to have fuel flown to him.
John Lucas drove the vehicle with Ralph Proctor as his passenger.
Hay Fire Brigade members polished the 1956 truck for the ANZAC March. Decommissioned 20 years ago, the fifty six year old vehicle is still used for special occasions.
Booligal Remembers
Communities throughout Australia commemorate ANZAC Day. In the cities, the towns and the villages wreaths are laid, prayers said and speeches made.
The small community of Booligal paid their respects to the ANZACS with a flag raising and wreath laying ceremony attended by school children and community members.
